As promised a day late and a dolla short...Sorry I couldn't resist that phrase, while I'm a day (dayssss) late this post is nothing short of a dolla!

Do you have a Bachelor's Degree and any experience working with kiddos?! If so you should consider working from home, making your own schedule, making $16-24 an hour, and loving your job! My referral link is posted at the bottom of the page. If this post convinced you to apply with VIPKID, then PLEASE use my referral code! (It helps me to advance within the company and I might get a referral bonus!) Seriously yall, I would not recommend something that wasn't legit a really good thing!!!

SO...WHY VIPKID?!

You will be unforgettable. You will also have some pretty unforgettable, hilarious, and sweet experiences in the process! As a teenager, I always wanted to be an English teacher in China. One particular family that I knew as a kid shared with us how their calling had been to serve on the mission field of China teaching English, and that there was a big demand for it. They were trying to recruit our family and friends to go and help them! They got to share their lessons, pics from their classrooms, their enthusiasm, and their love for it. It is still seared in my mind as something I knew I wanted to do and could be used to do.
And guess what?! I get to do that in a roundabout way bc VIPKID allows me to be a part of something bigger than I am. What a privilege it is to share my talents with that ginormous part of the world and its little adorable loves!

The whole 9 months before my first sweet babe was born, I prayed about how I was going to financially contribute to our family. Seriously yall. I knew as a young child, that I wanted to be a Mommy! Before the hubs and I got married, I made it plain and clear to him: When we have kids I am staying home with them! He never once put up an argument, but we prayed (and worried) about it A LOT from the day we found out I was preggo and hey, MY GOD PROVIDES IN EXCEEDING AND ABUNDANT WAYS! I just have to give Him the due glory here...because when He calls you to something, as impossible as it may seem, He takes care of you!

I started an entire pinboard and journal with my ideas for opening my own store, toyed with starting a blog and attempting to make money off the ads, debated selling Lularoe, Plexus, trying my hand at painting/embroidery, working from home via a big company like Delta, signed up to do those Mystery Shops (ain't nobody with 2 kids under 2 got time to get out and do that!) anything and everything...I had thought about it, prayed about it, and nothing worked out mainly because ALL of those things required too much of my TIME or lots of MONEY in start up costs.

The financial need never stopped being real, and I never stopped praying for a way to contribute. Then this summer, I saw a Facebook ad for VIPKID, and was like Pshhh...eyeroll and kept scrolling. Like what a gimmick!Who makes $16-24 an hour teaching online in just 25 minutes...yeah right.
A couple weeks later, my Mother in Law tagged me in a Facebook post for VIPKID and said I should look into it. A few days later my Aunt sent me a text saying hey, you could do this! So, finally I read the ad, I read reviews, I read the requirements, and I thought there's no way they will accept my credentials because the college I graduated from is not prestigious enough, but I'll fill in the information anyway. Yall, I was so vague. I mean I had been a classroom teacher for 6 years and definitely LOVED teaching! I had some experience that I really could of hammed up, but I knew this was too good to be true so I briefed it.

Within 24 hours, I had an email asking me to set up an interview and teach a brief 10 minute sample lesson with the powerpoint slides provided in the email. What?! Ok, why not, right?! What do I have to lose?! I can definitely get a child to repeat the alphabet and phonetic sounds right?! It was Beijing time so I think it was like 3 am. The interview was with someone in China in the HR department and was all of 30 minutes. They asked about me, told me about the company, gave me some suggestions, and let me teach. I went to bed and told my husband that it was such a neat and professional experience, but I didn't expect anything to really come of it. Although, true to the advertisement, I was floored with the possibility of bringing in an extra $2,000 a month. Within 24 hours, I had another email asking me to sign up for a MOCK 1 Interview. It was a little more involved (25 slides for a 25 minute lesson like the actual classes are), but was evaluated by a mentor teacher here in the states. I spent hours preparing. I was so nervous. The mentor teacher acts like a 5 year old Chinese student who doesn't know any English. It was pretty stressful, I taught "too long" had a lot of incidental language, and I knew that I bombed it. I honestly went to bed crying that night, but then within 48 hours I got another email asking me to take a MOCK 2. This time I spent less time preparing and more time being genuine. I rocked that interview! I knew that if they didn't hire me, it was because I did so poorly on the first Mock. Within 48 hours, I got an email saying I had been hired! They handle each step of the interview process on a 48-72 hour time sensitive basis...probably because they have a lot of applicants applying!

We were getting ready to go on a family vacation, so I waited until we got back to submit all my required documentation and proofs. When we got back, I opened up my schedule and my bookings started to slowly trickle in, and oh my soul, I stinkin' love it! I'm always so pumped after teaching, and I love that I'm getting to use my talents while staying at home! (Plus this will look good on my resume one day if the door opens for me to step back inside the classroom setting!) I love that the lessons are short and sweet and that there's very little parent interaction, no grading, and the lessons are prepared for you! Oh and my favorite thing is without a doubt...the money. Here are my top 10 reasons why you should consider VIPKID:

1. You can be a part of something bigger than yourself!

2. You make your own schedule! (I work while my husband is home and babies are sleeping so I don't miss any time with them!) If you'd be able to work morning hours, those are the hottest times of the day! I can't because of my littles, but there are a lot of scheduling options.

3. You can make between $16-24 an hour. (My average is $22) There are all kinds of bonus' available, promotional opportunities, and certifications. Seriously yall, my first pay check was about $300, and they have doubled since then. That may not sound like a lot to you...but that's a car payment and then some to me.

4. Classes are only 25 minutes long (28 minutes max if technical difficulties occur)

5. No grading!

6. Lesson's are provided! (based off Common Core standards)

7. No Start up Costs (everything I use, I already had between my former classrooms and my kid's toys!)

8. No parent communication!

9. Work from home! (I teach in a corner of my kitchen!)

10. It's FUN! Your heart will be knit with the culture and kiddos of China!

Hey Everyone!

Wow...it has truly been a loooooooooooooooooooooong time since I last shared anything teacher-spirational with yall! Most of you who know me personally or follow me on IG know that I have taken a "break" from teaching in the classroom to stay home with my own children...a decision that I will never look back on!

I welcomed a precious baby into my family on May 12, 2015. He was due on May 22 which just so happened to be the last day of the 2014-2015 school year for me! I was convinced he was gonna come late and that I'd make my eoy gifts, attend awards, host our last class carnival, and even attend the dreaded FIELD day ;) BUT he came a couple weeks early (labor contractions began while walking around Sams for party supplies with my Room Mom) forcing me to say an abrupt goodbye (and we all know the eoy goodbyes are hard enough anyway) to one of the best groups of kiddos and parents I'd ever taught. (My last post literally sums that year up...The Best School Year EVER ironically too, because if some of you remember, I totally thought that partition was gonna ruin me!) They showered me with so much love even afterwards that I always intended to make a post and dedicate it to them. However, the wonderful demands of having a newborn always wrapped up in my arms made that challenging so I never got past a draft. Seriously, yall...he was the cutest baby boy in the whole wide world...Meet Hudson Andrew Stewart:
And...he made us a happy little family...something I always dreamed about even as a child. AND THEN before I had anytime to get the blues about being out of the classroom....I got pregnant and had the most beautiful baby girl in the whole wide world. Meet Adalyn Ruth Stewart:
Side note: My photographer is like the best ever and I adore her. Link above for any of you Atlanta area friends in need of an understanding and passionate photographer!

And...that sweet little baby girl above, made us a bigger busier crazier happier family of four...

After a week, my husband went back to work and life with 2 children under the age of 2 was nothing like my picture perfect heart had hoped....lots of demands (many of which I put on myself because my husband is seriously the most understanding man I've ever met), lots of thankless and tireless jobs, things that we had always been able to balance seemed unattainable, things were not getting done, finances were tight,...and I went from SuperMom to Momzilla. I felt so worthless.

This is "FREE" but looking back, I know I had some PPD, the baby blues, whatever you wanna call it, but I never wanted to directly deal with it...be it pride, my family's record with medication, admitting something was wrong, not letting the Lord be my strength, you name it...I had a reason to not deal with what it really was. HOWEVER, I had an absolutely amazing support system in my husband, family, and friends. Were it not for them encouraging me, telling me it was normal, making me do things I didn't want to do, obligations that kept me busy, then I would not be who I am right now. If you are reading this and struggling with any of that right now, PLEASE reach out to me or someone who really can get you some help. Don't think less of me sweet friends, but know that it can be real, and be smart enough to recognize it. When did it end?! When did I get over it?! I think it is different for everyone, but in my case around the time Addy turned 6 months old...she and Hudson both became more independent and I started doing 2 very specific things for myself:

1. I joined the YMCA. I stopped making 2 pregnancies in the last 2 years an excuse for why I wasn't happy with myself physically and started doing something about it. It is still a work in progress. Joining the Y also has allowed me to shower everyday while my kiddos are in the childcare center...that was a game changer! :) Seriously, who knew an uninterrupted shower was a part of wellness!!! So that's really why I joined hahahaha!

2. I got a job with VIPKID....teaching English online and making good money just 25 minutes at a time and setting my own schedule (nights and weekends while my hubby is home with the kiddos in the comfort of my own home!) Yep, that company you keep seeing on your social media feeds that seems to good to be true...I applied to work there and they hired me! Yall, it has given me such an outlet to use my God given talents, and make some extra easy cash in the meantime! If you're interested in the company, I'll be posting a "Why VIPKID?!" post tomorrow so stay tuned and I'll give ya lots of details and instructions for the initial SIGN UP.

BOTH of those things, have given me a little bit more WORTH. Even my husband commented that I seem "happier".

SO there's why I've been MIA...most of you already knew...but you might be seeing me around a bit more to showcase some of my VIPKID fun! (oh, and if you are interested be sure to tune back into The Overstimulated Teacher tomorrow for the why and how to become a VIPKID Teacher.

Happy Teaching Sweet Friends!

My Oh My! It has been a while...lots of scholastic...and not so scholastic... crazinesss happening in my little corner of the world...feeling like a change is in the air....ehem...the first day of fall...

so now to share a bit of that with you...

We started out the year with Barbara Robinson's The <strike>Worst</strike> Best School Year Ever! I love her The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, so I thought this would be the perfect read aloud for starting the year together, and of course introducing them to the Herdmans is always hysterical.

I completed an example using the teacher next door to me, whom I absolutely love and adore! I used a scholastic printable I found on their website where they had to write a paragraph about their classmate! Strangely, and not on purpose, most of the girls were assigned to a boy and vice versa!

I have another AMAZING class this year! Different from last year in that they are a really young group of kiddos. Any reference to abbreviations in grammar such as O.P....cracks them up or reading about the deadly mustard gas from WWI was almost impossible, but I've really been blessed with what I consider the cream of the crop the last 3 years! For those of you with challenging classes this year...my day's a comin'!
They also love our class read aloud time...we just finished Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume...oh my soul! Never in my life did I dream the end of that book would lead to a discussion on how babies are born!!! They had me in stitches! Literally. Tears. Poppin'. Out!

We have written compare and contrast essays on our best friends! I was uber impressed with the thesaurus dedication when it came to revising...words like gallant, towering, elasticity! :)

Lastly, I'll conclude with some pics with my precious nieces several weeks ago at a dinner celebrating my hubby's ordination into the ministry :)
Hey Yall!

Today was my first day back!!! It's been a long and exciting day and I am pooped out from all the procedures...practice...talking...explaining...sharing...and...planning! It was all definitely worth it and I can't wait to share in the lives of the precious 19 that I have this year!
I'll quickly summarize with Farely's Currently...

Listening....take out says it all! Yes, I went to La Parilla tonight and ordered take out! Since I was starving from eating lunch at 11:00 am....my dinner was gone by the time I got home...so I am now enduring the crunch crunch smacking of my man's dinner!

Loving....day one is over! As exciting as it was, I am so glad that is behind me...whew!

Thinking...I CAN NOT wear a dress or skirt tomorrow...as much as I was on my feet today...this gal's fat thighs just can't handle all that! Pants tomorrow or else I'm wearing my hunny's boxers briefs and loading on some of that monkey butt anti chaffing powder!

Wanting...I've just recently become obsessed with a house that is for sale in my neighborhood...ah....I'd love to buy it! BUT...without a miraculously HUGE love offering....haha! I can forget it!

Needing...I really need to develop all the pics I took for our QOD board tonight...so that can start first thing tomorrow following their normal daily routine! And I need some sleep...goodness me...I really need some sleep!

Happy August!

I have 19 fifth graders right now and I'm sure they're just as giddy and restless as I am about going back tomorrow! Hopefully they're all snug as bugs and sleepin' tight right now!

I'm ready...but I don't feel ready...I'm over prepared and trying to convince myself that this isn't my first rodeo and that the first day flies by!

I worked on a couple of bts gifts for some special people....first off, I had 2 girls from my class email me each week this summer as a part of working on their writing...so their prize is awaiting them tomorrow if they get a chance to come by and see me!

Then I worked on a small note for my fifth grade team members! We really are fabulous together and I grew to love and respect them both last year! I got them both a Bath and Body wallflower plugin and scent with a note about life's enjoyments and pleasures! My goal this year REALLY is to be home EVERYDAY by 4:30!!!
I've been a little MIA in the blogsphere lately...but in real life this girl has been insanely busy and I know you all have too! We're officially pre-planning this week and there's not a whole lot of time to work in our classrooms...so I'm not quite ready to give you my grand finale pics yet, but I do have a few things that I've actually finished...

This is my question of the day board. I used this last year but styled it a little differently this go round. I found this idea from Ashley Reed's TPT store and let me just tell you my kids LOVE it! $5.00 spent well and it fits my circus theme perfectly...if I forget to change it, first thing they let me know and ask me what the new one is! It was such a hit that this year that I have decided to daily theme my questions...vocab. one day, president 411 another, etc..because the greatest thing about this purchase is it is editable!!! I'll take their pics at open house with a stache on and they simply change their magnets daily to answer the question...

I also got my bts goody bags for open house/meet & greet/orientation....whatever you call it!
Again...I did these last year but used differently stationary for the note this year.

Note reads: "WELCOME! You are a smartie who was mint to be in this class! What you make of this year is UP2U."

Speaking of being MINT to be in a class...yesterday we got the LIST...you know the one that will change over and over again in the next several days...I had 19 yesterday...today I've got 17...tomorrow I'll probably have 20 (our cap)...and let me just say...I do not envy my principal who has to divvy up all those kids into our classrooms! And then listen to parent, student, and teacher complaints because they didn't get who they wanted...we don't differentiate our grade level...you know as well as I do that we seldom hear the positive, but constantly hear the negative! Remember this truth during your preparation time, especially regarding your admin...whether the best or the worst!

Happy Planning Peeps!
Hey Yall! So...I know most of you who go back to school the first week in August are already crazy busy with plans, room re-do's, heck if you're as awesome as Kindergals...you've even got your back to school goody bags together...but, yall..." you do know we still have 3 weeks until we go back to school?! "...

That should be plenty of time for all teachers!

Um...NOT!!! At school today someone said this to me while I was working...
"You do know we still have 3 weeks until school starts back?" when I was "asking" for help with the loverly partition that came off of its hinges and set me back today....I probably let this "fly all over me" a little too much but I guess it all comes down to MEN DO NOT understand how much work it takes and especially when the countdown is ehem...21/2 weeks...not 3...really 1 1/2 because of preplanning! Can I get an AMEN?!
In the above pic you can see that one "panel" of the partition isn't up...it's a little harder to secure. You can also see all the beautiful chairs that will replace my desks Wed. and Fri. evenings...and then put back up. I'm really not trying to complain...but it will be a pain...but it will work out. (I keep reminding myself)
The middle panel is a magnetic white board so I'm happy about that for housing homework and morning work.
The pic below is what I plan to do to all 6 back partion panels...it's kind of uncertain though so I just did one today...stapling to this thing doesn't work that well...laminating and velcroing all that is a lot of work and pricy...

Below is my library area...I still have lots to organize but the shelf to the far left is full of indoor recess games and educational games...the shelf to the far right holds class sets...of which I need a class set of dictionaries to add to...anyone have suggestions on where to get a nice inexpensive practically free set?! I'm thinking a lamp to top the other two shelves???and the big thing to the left is Mr. Partition all folded up.
Here's my other dilemma...
See this big beautiful bulletin board that held all of my jobs, behavior, etc...that use to be seen when you first walked in??? Well it's from my class last year...and this year I don't have a bulletin board at all because Mr. Partition takes the place of that....#comparisonisthethiefofjoy
I am a firm believer of ask for forgiveness before permission...so I *might* get some small velcro dots and just take stuff down on Wed. and Fri. afternoons from this wall! #that'salotofextrawork
A couple of months ago, I would have NEVER gotten excited over the word partition....heck, I didn't even know the word existed and referred to them as "those accordion slide thingies" BUT today, my friends, when I heard my admin. say "The partition is being installed" I was pretty stinking excited...I think I even clapped my hands!!! Mostly because I assumed the worst...that it wouldn't be in until the day before school starts or the day after school starts...and it's here! This installation is wayyy sooner than later yall and I was a teensy bit excited!
Unfortunately...I haven't been able to see it all spread out and stuff or test out the sound proofness of it...but I definitely plan on doing that tomorrow!

One of the panels is a magnetic whiteboard...which I think I'm gonna use for Morning Work and Homework...and the rest should be easy to velcro to because it's carpet like...the thing is..that dad gum partition has to slide back twice a week...Wednesdays and Fridays...so EVERY Wednesday and Friday I have to break down my room (Technically, not I, someone is doing it for me...but cough cough...it will be a lot of me if ya know what I mean...because heller...I'm a lil' bit of a control freak!) ...desks and all...so that this can function as one big room on those nights....and my desks have to go in the closet....so yes, I am gaining a closet, but in a way I'm losing the closet and definitely downsizing my room...now to be optimistic...I happen to love and adore the teacher on the other side : ) and I'm thinking we just might have to go ahead and open it up on some of those Wednesdays and Fridays to join our lessons ;)

In other exciting news...this week is pet week for my summer classes and my kids LOVED talking and writing about their pets today :) I started our lessons talking about Blue and Luiz from Rio and how Blu didn't look like a pet...but he was! And Luiz looked like a pet...but he wasn't! Then we all talked about our pets and wrote about them!
These cute little guys were a great incentive today for good behavior!!!
Seriously though...my day...was spent on my sofa...snuggled up in blankets reading, sleeping, and pinning away! Here's the reality: I'd read some blogs from my feed...check out their newest products...get a little discouraged or overwhelmed at how incredible some of you ladies is...so I'd roll over and nap...then I'd wake up and pin some and repeat!
I decided to link up with Jivey at Ideas by Jivey for her what I'm wearing Wednesday after reading so many of these today! I just started following her recently after finding out she's a Georgian :) and yes, she is one of those incredible women that make you sick but only in a good way :)

What you might ask could I possibly be wearing worth sharing...
Listening...I watch HGTV like seriously ALL the time yall! I love the old LOVE IT or LIST IT's and so does my wonderful other half...but they usually put him to sleep after a long day's work and then he snores!!!

Loving...tomorrow is a day for me and my bestie! I'm super excited because we have lots of catching up to do...I'm sure a pedi is in the schedule for tomorrow and some shopping too!

Thinking...I have a lot going on right now that I can't exactly share but some serious decisions that need to be made...you know the kind that you can't get out of your mind and you think on them all the time...yea...it's one of those...pray for me to give it to the Lord and stop worrying with it! I also need to wake up my mister and go to bed...he won't go upstairs without me...ain't he so sweet...and I know he'd be more comfortable upstairs!

Wanting...and Wishing...that I could lose 30 pounds this month! Ugh. It could happen....

Needing...I still have loads of laundry from last week's youth camp that need to seriously be done...they smell. And clean the garage...it has to be done before school starts back...I guess I really need a flood out there to motivate me :)

Plans...last year my hubby and I went to Savannah for the 4th weekend with my oldest niece! We plan to leave on Thursday and come back Sunday this weekend but still have no idea where we are going...he starts a new job Monday and we have been busy, busy, busy lately! Some R&R is needful and no niece this time for obvi reasons, and she is having her 7th birthday party on the fourth too!

What are you CURRENTLY up to?!

I must admit that NEVER once at camp last week did I think about the mountainous move that I have to make in less than a month! Moving classrooms is nothing new to me...this will only make the 3rd consecutive year that I've moved in a row and something deep down tells me it won't be my last classroom move ;) I have become a permanent member of the traveling circus for reals! Yet, God is at work in my life.

But now that I'm back in my reality world...My new classroom was suppose to be "move in ready" today...haha! I didn't really think it would be, but that was the plan! If you missed the news...I'm moving from a big beautiful room upstairs in our building to a downstairs dungeon that use to be the band room, but is currently being transformed into 2 classrooms and divided by one of those "mulit purpose space" partitions!

Yep...that's right...lots of before and after pics are in my near future...and I have some restrictions that I've never had before...so this move will be a booger to overcome! It could be worse though...I know some of you teacher buddies of mine that are moving and can't even get in until pre planning!!!

I'm teaching summer camp in my last year classroom so...I was only a bit frustrated to walk in today and find... tons of big 'ole boxes covering the room that #1Still needs to be packed up and #2That I'm teaching in for summer camp!
Somehow I managed to overlook the big boxes and so did all my classes today and we focused on America! We had such a great day talking about what America means to us and reading from some patriotic favs! My K3-Kinder classes learned the Star Spangled Banner and with my 1st-5th kiddos we read the One Nation book. It includes some poetry and counting through America's history and symbols. Unfortunately, our 25 minutes only allotted us enough time for reading and discussing our reads!
I never thought I'd have as much fun with the littles as I have! Especially this one adorable curley headed little cutie who was extremely attached to his pine cone today..he even imagined it the torch for the Statue of Liberty! And had to have a book for posing as Lady Liberty!
So...I have been a little MIA lately...but only in the blog sense! I've been at Camp Canaan with about 120 teenagers soaking up God's Word and being challenged to live a victorious Christian life!

Now that I am no longer in an after camp induced coma, I have something to share with you....

After some prayer and meeting up with this gal, Irma Prosser, I am excited to share that I am embarking upon a new journey with G-Iron Tutor. I will be assisting her as a K-5 Tutor serving south metro Atlanta areas.

Here we are signing our contract and she didn't take this whole expansion thing lightly but rather serious! I'm excited and praying for opportunities to help her!

Yep...life or death experience right there! And it was wayy worse than it looks!

So...
Why tutor?!
In the five years that I've taught, it never fails that I have at least one student who struggles more than others. This is NOT because they are stupid or can't get it, but because they learn differently. They thrive from one on one. They need materials previewed and they need repetition. They process differently. They need you to slow down and it takes them longer to complete assignments. That is how they learn!
I've also had the complete opposite of the spectrum. Every year there's at least one kiddo in my class that isn't being challenged enough because they're either gifted or extremely academic. While Christian schools provide a God centered, safe, and super education, we often lack the people and funding needed to help those students. That's my goal in joining G-Iron Tutor; to help the struggling and challenge the gifted!

Why G-Iron?
Irma, the founder, is an exceptional teacher, mentor, and friend, but most importantly an exceptional Christian! Her testimony is amazing and I know that the Lord is the one who has blessed her business! I don't know if you've tutored students before, but when people find out I'm a teacher, a lot want to know if I tutor...sometimes tutoring means you're just doing someone a favor...but not with G-Iron...tutoring means changing someone's life and making major changes, both academic and spiritual! Tutoring is not only her passion, but it is her career and we all know that good tutors are few and far between! I use to hate recommending a tutor to my parents because sooooo often....it isn't taken serious enough!
I know that working for her will hold me accountable to be the best K-5th tutor and by God's grace and His wisdom, that is what I will be!

Click on the pic below to check out her website and get tutoring details! And don't forget to recommend us!:)

Here's a southern recipe for yall too! This
sweet dear elderly lady from my church has whipped this up several
times for us when we've just randomly stopped by her house for a visit!
It's super easy and is made with ingredients that us southerners almost
always have on hand...and it's delicious with some icecream served up on
top! I have made this many times and it's a go to dessert when having friends or family over! It's a easy to make as it looks...simply add 1 cup of flour, sugar, and milk all together with 1 stick of melted butter and 1 can of peaches...cook on 375 for 35-40 minutes and tada...delicious and comforting dessert!

I'm sure all teachers do, but I cannot express how much I love, Love, LOVE children's books...like my garage is FULL of them...so is my car...so are my closets... and so is my classroom...I can't ever pass up a copy of one of my favs from the Goodwill or even a new one for that matter. Barnes and Noble/Books a Million are constant companions of mine...a new book ALWAYS makes me happy! Anytime I'm shopping and can't find something to fit or look good or work...a new book never lets me down!
I've loved reading all the book reviews from Deanna Jump's Let's Talk About Books linky and while mine is not a PD book this week...
I've got some favorites that I've used and stumbled upon here lately that I want to share!
Since I'm teaching summer camp at my school....I've read several within the last week...I'm trying to stick with oceany summery vacationy books to make them all feel like they're on summer break!

The Pout Pout fish is for sure one of my absolute favorites! It's about a pouty fish who turns into a kissy fish because of some love and happiness! I love reading that one aloud, go buy it NOW if you don't own it! The Rainbow fish is a great one too and with an amazing message about sharing! Pig Kahuna was a bookfair book from a couple of years ago...I couldn't pass it up because...hello...pigs out on the ocean?!.. but the illustrations are absolutely adorable in it! The kids especially love the baby pig that puts his ocean treasures in his diaper :)

Barbara Park was an amazing author and definitely had a knack for getting kiddos interested in reading! I've been reading this gem to the 1st-5th graders in the summer camp program and they love her as much as I do! Just recently though, I've really noticed that a lot of her books are funny because of Junie's bad attitude...just wondering if any of you have ever had complaints about this? Don't get me wrong...I LOVE her books!

I also found a great new book in Barnes and Noble last Tuesday that goes perfectly with a circus themed classroom, but really for anyone! I can't wait to add it to my library! It's about this puppy, Jane, who is just plain and ordinary while the rest of her friends and family are extraordinary and have super amazing talents...it sends the message that everyone is extraordinary in an ordinary way and that it's okay to be Just Jane :) I LOVE it! Even though I'm a fifth grade teacher, I will definitely read this one at the beginning of the year! Kids have so much pressure on them to be the best soccer player, piano player, student...etc...and I think sometimes they need to be Just Them...their own fearfully and wonderfully made personality that God gave them! This past year really showed me just how much pressure 5th-6th graders have on them from other students to fit in...I think this book will be a perfect start to our year!
Now finally a book for the 3rd-5th grader...Mary Poppins! Did you even know this was a book?! I, for one, did not! I love Disney's Mary Poppins! It's definitely a favorite to watch, but until watching Saving Mr. Banks...I didn't realize it was a book!!! I bought it last Tuesday and have been reading a couple of chapters each night. The story behind the author's inspiration for the character of Mary Poppins was surprisingly depressing. I plan to incorporate it somehow next year and talk about the author inspiration and purpose.
My favorite definitely has to be Love It or List It or the house flip shows...can you imagine making $120 thousand in two months...ah, it'd be nice eh?!

This isn't really school related but Sunday School related :) And I can cross something off my summer to do list!

One space in our life that definitely gets neglected is our Sunday School room at church...better yet, really, our entire church. Our church is in Brookhaven, Atlanta. We, and most of the members, live outside of Atlanta and travel about 40ish minutes to get there on Sundays and Wednesdays. Yes, traffic is always a beast and I NEVER thought I'd drive to Atlanta for church (I'm almost positive that those words came out of my mouth once!)...BUT the Lord has a sense of humor and His plan is perfect!

Shame on us, but we've never put a lot of time or energy into our classroom. We started revamping it last fall but then we just kinda stopped. I sit there every Sunday morning and dream of what the room should look like and what I could do to it...but just dream... up until last week...we both decided to put some time and effort and moneyyy into our class. We had FINALLY decided to go with a red/gray/black scheme. It took us a while to decide or errr...agree! Everything I suggested was too girly and since my man is the youth pastor and a Georgia fan...I let him have the last say SO LONG as he trusted me with the rest!!! I wanted the room to be a "cool" place for the teens, but I also wanted it to reflect us some...mostly him.
With Vinyl, Chalkboard, and Chevron everywhere nowadays we put a spin on all of that combined.
I'll recap what we have so far in 4 pics... I say so far because I'm sure I'll be buying and adding things to it now that I know what we're going for.

We painted this counter a flat gray about a year ago and learned that the cheap paint doesn't last and looks cheap so we repainted it with a glossy and are waiting to add hardware until we find it on sale. The frames above the counter are poster frames from Hobby Lobby with gray paper inside of them and chalkboard vinyl on top. My hubs free-handed the chalk words with a chalk board pen..actually, I did one of these...can you figure out which one?!?
Originally I bought 4 frames from Michaels but when I began adhering the vinyl, I noticed 3 of the 4 frames were cracked in some way..gir! The worst part is Michael's *almost* didn't take them back...it took some persuading and talking with the manager...word to the wise...check yo frames! I was in a hurry and knew what I wanted and where to find them...so I quick grabbed 4 and paid! Thankfully, they reimbursed me and I went to Hob Lob to get new frames!

This counter top needs some serious scrubbing from some sloppy white wall painting we let the teens do years ago! I wish I had before pics because this room use to have a lime green, orange, and blue wall!

This one has to be my MOST favorite! I mean look at that writing...that would be my hubs! Be jelly :) because I am! I was really excited by how much we used his calligraphy and writing to revamp the room. This chalkboard sits in the most awkward spot and use to be green! We added 3 modern red shelves to the left that we got from Lowe's.

Absolutely Beautiful!

The next pic shows the chevron wall we did last fall! It took some serious planning and execution on the hubs part! My word at all the taping that had to be done! We only have one set of curtains because I wasn't sure I'd like them...I did so I've since added 2 more curtains. All the little frames sittin around are from Michaels $2 deals...and we need to add some pics to them! The couch for this class is in poor condition but it "works" and has a great story behind it from our first year working with the youth so we plan to keep it, but I'm keeping my eyes open for some cute red or gray accent pillows! The teen girls love it too!

The floor needs some help. We bought the gray rug from Lowe's for $20 bucks, but we really need another one and some carpet pads because it's slick.

This last pic shows that I did hang some girly paper lanterns and fans from the ceiling! It also shows that there's a bulletin board behind the couch...I plan to incorporate our kids some how with chalkboard art. Above it are the words "Let No Man Despise Thy Youth..."

I have to say that this definitely makes me happy to be in this room! We have rescued our reno :) and trust me, there are plenty other rooms in this church that are on my list!

I have kinda been relishing in this thing called summer lately and haven't put in the effort to update you alls on what's going on wif me.

My last day with kiddos was Wednesday, the 28th, 2 weeks ago tomorrow!!!

Our last day was a half day-field day. We all got to wear our shirts that were adorbs! The fifth graders were easy to spot in our neon shirts! The front: "Orange you glad..." The Back: "Fifth Grade is Behind You!" And they were made by the fab SOS Designs and let me just tell you they were awesome at custom designing these because we really wanted an orange on the front with the year 2013-2014...and they made it happen just the way we wanted...well, better than we wanted because I couldn't quite handle drawing an orange!

It was the most organized Field Day I've ever been a part of and as you can see... the teacher's had to do very little! I'm thankful for these precious teammates of mine and our P.E. coach who organized this day!

I had a lot of boys..ehem..young men...

capture my heart this year and I mean really capture! The boys of this class made me laugh daily and were sooo...sweet!!! These are only two of them, but they were all so special to me....including my drama filled girls!

I also hate to share for those of you who didn't have parents who were good to you this year...but because I had really giving and appreciate parents and I don't know if it will be this way next year...I will be thankful :) Here are some of my year ends:

Summer is already flying by! I'm patiently waiting for my couple of beach days :)

For those of you still teaching or post planning, sincerest apologies!

Thankfully, I was able to wrap things up at school that very next Thursday and didn't go back into the school until a full week later!!!

Why???

Why did I go back into school a week later?

Why am I not sleeping in every M, W, F???

Why am I making lesson plans during this summer vacay of mine???

Because this chick agreed to teach summer camp...

oh, yes, I did.

My Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays consists of 30 minute literacy classes starting with 5th graders and ending with K3ers :0 It's a lot of work and I definitely feel like I'm earning my $$$, but it gives me a chance to freshen up on strategies for younger kiddos!

I'm trying to spend my June NOT thinking of the classroomed partition move that is inevitable for this upcoming school year...I will stress more about it in July.

For now I'll spend my summer being a workaholic because I love teaching.

Stay tuned for an exciting addition to my teaching career being posted this week...

Sooo...I'm super dooper pooped but have so...many exciting things to show that I can't not post! I finished 2 more projects today...one is my door...yes, this will only be up for today, tomorrow, and tuesday...all of 3 days...
It's not a great pic because it doesn't show the full door...but the last read aloud I do is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I was really excited because I thought it'd happen right around the same time as teaching weather...but it was a bit delayed...so I'm just now getting this up...the hot air balloons are uhh...dorable but did take a lot of time. I wanted to put the number of days left in the center of the cyclone but just don't even care anymore...I should have done this at the beg. not end of May...
has already cleared their door and hall decor...and then I realize that
this crazy gal that they call Mrs. Stewart is putting stuff up on the ways!!!
ANNDDD....
I know I've already shared my end of the year student gifts, but this year I also did these. I found out we have a "party fund" that I didn't know about and at the end of the year it disappears...so I used that budget to buy these for my dear sweet kiddos!
They drew their pic on a tiny white square on the first day of school and I used those to create a newsletter template that I used all year...I won't share how I did the template because you'd really know that I'm a total techno dummy!!! Either way, by getting these ordered from one of my sweet coworkers, I definitely learned something that will save me a lot of time in the future!
As you know parents can make or break your year! This year I have a whole bunch of really great supportive parents! This week I have my last conferences that include the parent and student together, and I wanted something special for the 'rents that sign up and come...these conferences are voluntary and not mandatory, and in a way serve a "closure" purpose for me but they're a great time of reflecting on our year.
I bought a bunch of mini hand sanitizers from Bath and Body and then did a search in TPT for "Thanks for your helping hands" and found an adorable printable! I don't know who created it because I was in a hurry, but I'm so dang thankful for TPT...everything you need is on there!

Some of the parents who were especially helpful this year got a personalized note! I was really pleased with the results!

My conferences consist of going over grades, test scores, student evaluations, and "summer scholastic" ideas. I also have an eval for them to complete about me and turn in the next day. ...I gave a pack of 10 papers to each 'rent that showed up and include the math website suggestions from Mr. Elementary Math :) and the summer reading log from Barnes and Noble. One of the summer scholastic ideas was for them to send me an email every week summarizing their week. I told them that if they send at least 7 emails summarizing their vacation in at least 5 complete sentences, then I'd have a special sumin'-sumin' for them at the beginning of next year!
Today we did a lot of "WORK ON WRITING" to finish up our final projects...one of my "fillers" while they were waiting for a writing conference was to write a letter to the next years class. I'd never done this before, but was super pleased with the results. I had them put their number instead of their name, and plan to give them out to the new students according to their alphabetical "number" on the first day of school next year. For Example: Number 1 wrote a letter to the upcoming number 1. They introduced me to the new class and answered some questions and then on the back wrote their letter...so many of them made me LOL!
I have to share a few...or maybe a lot...

I'm knee deep in finalizing grades, our end of the year party, honor's day certificates, field day junk, processing the MOVE, etc...
I just thought I'd share what I plan to do for my student's end of the year gifts...I'm doing the exact same thing as last year....EXCEPT...I'm a little ahead of schedule this year and definitely won't be mailing them....

Click on the pic below to go to my post from last year, and read all about how they were made!

Time consuming...yes!
Inexpensive....yes!
Meaningful...yes!

What do you do for end of the year gifts?!
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12057749148620994709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092458706802288409.post-14546885022336054042014-05-14T16:12:00.001-07:002014-05-14T16:12:20.946-07:00THIS Wednesday's Post :) Hello Again (to all my friends...I'm glad you've come to play...Our fun and learning never ends...here's what we did today...) Yes, that was Barney's conclusion to the PBS show I used to watch as a kid...and unfortunately it goes through my head quite often....

So, yeah, I have no..earthly idea why I didn't post last week...or why I wrote a super long post last Wednesday and then never published it...
Actually, I do know...it probably has something to do with the fact that we have less than 10 days of school left and I just got INFORMED that I, and one of my coworkers, are for definite moving to the band room. You see, it's a numbers thing. They want to add some middle school classes...whoohoo! I'm all for growing...but I DON'T want to move.

I WILL MOVE.

I HAVE TO MOVE

I KNOW I'LL BE OKAY...

BUT...

I really don't want to move!

You see, this will be the 3rd classroom move I've made in 3 years...what's more...the room will have a partition...so I lose a wall...what's even more...I lose 2 walls because one wall has 2 closet doors...and no, I don't get to use both of the closets and I'm not exactly sure if I'll be able to even use or have one of them.

I'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat I am right now...and we will get through this.

Since last Wednesday....
We have finished Where the Red Fern Grows. Every.single.one. of my boys cried....and I cried a lot! It's a wonderful read aloud. We watched the movie, but we were not impressed at all. For once, all 17 of my babies voted that they liked the movie better.

We started The Wizard of OZ . I hope to have it finished by next Thursday.

We finished our Mother's Day persuasive writing.I found this last year from the Polka-dotted Teacher. She has everything you need to make this happen. I have mine do a 5 para on why their Mom should be on the cover of People magazine, and I totally make them think it's a contest because they give wayyy more than their best! and Moms deserve our best for Mother's Day!
I wrote "Millions for Moms" on the board and introduced this as being something they would submit for a contest. I never used the word money or win money, but a few dreamed it up and I never "shut it down"! On Friday, I told them I had kind of a confession to make by letting them believe they could win one million dollars....then explained that throughout their lifetime their moms will give them a total of a million hugs, kisses, smiles, dollars, toys, etc...and I gave them all a million dollar mint!

I always like to give educational gifts, so being able to incorporate persuasive writing in this makes me one happy teacher.
I also took their pictures with a faux chalk board and developed them in black and white...I loved them...inside their cards were 2 more pics of them with their Mommies from Open House and they were taken inside our class photo booth. Have I ever mentioned on here that my LOVE Language is...gifts!? Seriously, it is. If you've never read or taken the 5 Love Languages quiz or book...you should...I love gifts and giving gifts. It's a real "love language":) And I am very blessed this year with a great group of kiddos and their familes!

Speaking of gifts...we had revival meetings last week...and the ladies from our church put together a pinterest inspired "Box of Sunshine" for her! It looked amazing and I was super pleased with the turnout! Our guest preacher is a huge blessing and his sweet wife never gets to come because of her health...so here's what we sent her: all things yellow! It was super dee dooper cute!
My bestie's brother just bought a house. He and my hubby have become pretty good friends and so a couple of us got together for pizza at his new place and took him some "WHITE TRASH FOR HIS BACHELOR PAD" Very practical stuff that should last him a while...he needs a wife...any southern takers?!

Hey Yall!

It sure has been a long week...

Yes, I know it's only Wednesday BUT
my eyes are already drooping!

Monday afternoon at car line, I told one of my kiddos to have a good weekend...he and his grandma both looked at me like I had lost it...
and then yesterday while they were waiting in line to go to a special I said, "Go ahead 6th Grade"...they all looked at me funny and said...this is 5th grade! All day today, I've been thinking it's Thursday...

I can't seem to figure my left from my right these days and I still don't know much about the "changes"...you know every school has them at the end of the year...you either find out you're moving grades, classes, curriculum, or changing administation....I still don't know how "changes" will affect me, but deep down in my soul, I know that they will.

I don't have much to showcase from this week. We've been busy busy busy doing a persuasive Mother's Day writing piece and arranging it all together. We also have lost several hours of teaching time becuase of practices for concerts and programs. We've also become addicted to our latest class read aloud. I have determined at this point, that I don't care what does or doesn't get done, I AM GOING to have read aloud time!

I have several sweet kiddos who have done something sweet for me each day for Teacher Appreciation..

Here's a look at Monday's "Appreciation":

I had planned to do something for my team each day, but greatly neglected. I only managed to get them jars on Monday and filled them with paper clips. On Monday, I got a flower basket with a diet mountain dew, and chicken biscuit from Chick-fil-a, a bunch of mustachey stuff, and a sweet card that begins with "I hope you know how much I appreciate you. In words, I can't explain it." :) Doesn't that just melt your heart!

Tuesday's Appreciation consisted of berry pomegrante smoothie, a diet mountain dew, 2 large green apples, and the most amazing dip ever! Seriously, I'm not usually a dip person, but this is caramel, chocolate chips, toffe, etc...it is yum yum!
I guess I could sum this all up by saying my kids know me extremely well and have really thoughtful 'rents!
I can't believe this year is so near to the end and that my days with them are now very numbered. I want to do and share and see and learn so much more with them!
Boy do I think that I have some distressful news....though I'm not 100% posisitive...I'm 99.5% positive that I may be moving classrooms next year and being introduced to a partition. I've told you before that I love my team of fifth grade teachers...well, the teammates and I do a lot of supporting, talking, sharing, collaborating, etc...so when we all three of us got invited to a meeting for this coming Monday with our overhead...we knew something was up. We've gone over every possible scenario in our heads and thought...maybe we did something wrong? Maybe we performed so well this year we are getting a team performance raise? Maybe we are going to start this or that or this or that and so on...well let me just tell you that lil' ole' negative nessie me...thinks she has it figured out! While I really hope that what I think ISN'T true...I kinda think it is and my glass is no longer half full...but real close to emptay!
You see...here's what I think the problem is...

As Wonka puts it...we need extra space for classrooms.....so now I introduce you to what I think the solution will be.....
Mr. or Mrs. Partition.....

Are you wondering what in the world a partition is?! Don't feel bad...I just learned the word today....it's one of those accordion wall divider thingys!
And apparently they come in lots of different shapes and sizes...
Oh My Soul! Can you imagine?! I've come up with every kind of petition against the partition that I can think of but for some crazay reason I don't think my two cents is going to matter much. It is what it is.

Honestly, I have no idea what is or isn't in the works for me next year and this is all speculation on my part BUT....I can't help imagine the worst! I mean, common people! Is it really possible for me to have a classroom that is divided like this?! I will let you know when I know come Monday!

Any and all experiences with partitions are strongly encouraged to comment today!
We spent about 3 hours lisenting to probation revocations and then we got to see part of one burglary hearing! It was SOOOOO neat...for me...the kids were pretty exhausted and we even had one fall asleep and get caught by the really serious balif (sp?) police officer who proceeded to announce "maam, you need to stay awake, this is court." He also randomly said "HOLD IT DOWN. This is court" to get them quiet. Seriously, no smiles. He was good at what he did!
So...they enjoyed some of it, but a lot of it was over their head (because it was mine too!) but a great experience... especially considering that when I was little I always said I wanted to be a Judge AND I love me some Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown!
The Judge is our principal's husband so he was willing to come down to talk and answer questions during his short15 minute break...one asked "why do people break the law?" He first responded with "I wish I could answer that" and then said "I do know...most people break the law because they are selfish"
I thought TRUE DAT!
Oh, and I do have a funny...one of the dad's from our school ended up showing up at the courthouse to attend the field trip with his son. One of my sweet girls looked at me with him right beside me and said, "Mrs. Stewart, is that your husband?" while pointing at him...it. was. awkward. I just said no sweetie, that's __________'s dad. I know my face must have turned red...it was just kinda awkward for a minute.

So...because I was gone all day on a field trip and have nothing to grade today...it's the perfect day to grade our research papers right?! I've only had them sitting around for a week now... NOPE. Definitely not. I've graded 3 but I can't handle more than that today! Just from the first 3 I've graded, I can tell you that we are REALLY good at coming up with our own titles...."Bold for the Bible", "Assassinated for Awesomeness", and "Imprisoned by Persecutors" are really powerful titles...so yay for titles!!!...but, I can also tell you that we (and when I say WE...I mean me too!) are REALLY bad at comma usuage. I already know that next year, I will definitely review commas before writing our research papers!
Happy Tuesday Friends! It's been a good day for trials!
We finished last week up with some cloud flip book action. It was very thrown together on my part, but I have had an exhausting week. I'm honestly not sure why but FATIGUE has been a constant friend of mine as of late. I'm really hoping to gander up some energy over the rest of this weekend!

We also had Career Day on Thursday. Since this is my first year at this school, I had to remind myself that every school does things differently. I'm use to asking a couple of parents to come in and speak to the class for about 15 minutes each, or having the kiddos dress up, but instead we had a 2 and a half hour program with 15 minute rotations. It worked because we weren't sitting in any one place for that long, but it sure made for a short day in the classroom! and my kiddos weren't too happy about missing their specials but we all got over it and enjoyed listening to a news-reporter, surgeon's assistant, retired army something, a couple of banking career people and the ATF. He was by far our favorite and we could have listened to him probably the whole time. He leg and hand cuffed one of my most outgoing and talkative kiddos! He loved the attention!
I was planning a writing assignment on what they wanted to be when they grew up but lack of time sure quickly cut that one out. We did "chit-chat" for about 5 minutes at the end of the day and shared what they thought they wanted to be when they grew up...I'm expecting really big answers because I have 5th grade....and surprisingly more than half of my kiddos said working at Chick-fil-a. Now, I love Chick-fil-a, but I was kinda hoping to hear them dream bigger! I did have a couple of doctors, a movie maker, and one maybe teacher wannabe.

Today, some of our church Vacation Bible School workers went to the consolidated gold mine in Dahlonega to give us some ideas for our "Treasure Mine" theme this year. It was so....neat! My favorite part by far was the actual tour of the consolidated mine! I sang "I'm proud to be a coal miner's daughter quite a few times" and we saw bats, wore hard hats, and then panned for gold and gemstones afterwards!
Michael and I are on the left and the guy on the right is Doc.He was our tour guide and did a great job! Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of his humor. For those who know me well, you will find this hilarious...he said "There always seems to be one in each group that holds up an invisible sign saying...GULLIBLE!"
I ended up buying some schtuff from the gift shop...I'm a sucker for anything that I can display or use more than once in my classroom. I bought a petrified wood fossil sample, some "Dino poop" aka petrified animal dung or a trace fossil, and some fools gold. I bought a small book on Minerals in the Bible and yes, I spent $15 dollars on a pink hard hat. To justify that purchase, I WILL wear it everyday of VBS, I can use it as an incentive in my class when teaching rocks and minerals, and and and ONE day my own kiddos can wear it to play in!
It was a really cool place and would definitely make an awesome field trip. They said they get a lot of 3rd and 8th graders.

The best part about the trip to Dahlonega....the outlet malls...and yes, this happened too... Vera had a sale and I love this print, so I bought a new bag! It's the match to my Ipad case so now I kinda have a set. I also bought a soap dispenser from Kirklands and really wanted to stay longer and shop at The Loft's outlet store because they had some adorable clothes and all 40% off! but...I didn't....everyone was ready to go and tired...and I didn't need to drop anymore cash today.

Notice the pens in front of my bag....strangest thing...they were inside my bag...like someone had bought it and taken it back. Only, it doesn't look used at all! and they were the only thing inside of it! Strange.

I'm pooped so happy weekend!
